Summer internships differ from interning during  the school year. They allow the intern to fully focus on what is now a full-time position to develop proffessional skills. Many summer internships are part of a program that may have unique events like lunches with other interns and management and also activities like a company picnic or outing.

Internships are meant to give experience through working in a field that the intern is interested in and want to learn more about. There are also other types of internships such as Co-op, field experience and service learning. Internships can range in length from a few weeks to a full semester or longer. It can be for paid or unpaid, for credit or not-for-credit and are available in many fields ranging from education to engineering and medical.
